“PSSR” and its approved code of practice L122 ( ISBN 0 7176 1767 X) was introduced on the 21st February 2000, it makes clear a user/owner responsibility in ensuring the safety of personnel from potential results of failures of a pressure system, or one of its components.

All pressurised systems using gases and fluids above 0.5 bar pressure should be assessed as to their requirements under code of practice. Accumulators having pressure x volume of product of 250bar/litres or more are required to have a written scheme of examination, those below this ratio are subject to regulations governing safe operation limits, operation and maintenance and consequently do not fall under the re-certification schemes.
